Notes

  • Beef Stew Meat: You can substitute with round eye roast or chuck roast, cut into bite-sized chunks against the grain.
  • Beef Broth: Beef stock, beef bone broth, or beef bouillon and water can also be used. Full-salted broth is recommended for best flavor.
  • Brown Gravy Mix: If using a large container, use 6 tablespoons of brown gravy powder. Do not prepare according to package directions.
  • Garlic Cloves: 5 teaspoons of garlic paste or 2.5 tablespoons of jarred minced garlic can be used instead of fresh garlic.
  • Thicker Sauce: If the sauce is not thick enough, remove the lid to allow moisture to evaporate, or use a cornstarch slurry (1 teaspoon cold water + 1 teaspoon cornstarch).
  • Cooking Tip: Cooking on LOW heat for 7-8 hours yields the most tender beef tips. Cooking on HIGH heat is not recommended but would take 3-4 hours.
