Make Mars-cake that melts in your mouth! Simple and delicious! with clear steps, pantry staples, and flexible swaps.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips melted
  • 2 tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts optional

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients together until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the water, vegetable oil, white vinegar, and vanilla extract. Pour this wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are perfectly fine.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. While the cake is cooling, prepare the frosting. In a bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until smooth and fluffy.
  7. Blend in the melted chocolate chips and heavy cream until the frosting is well combined and has a silky texture.
  8. Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the frosting generously over the top, adding a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra flavor.
  9. If desired, sprinkle with chopped nuts for added texture and crunch. Allow the cake to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
